WEEE og genanvendelse

NOT IN THE
HOUSEHOLD BIN.

Electrical fittings and the cells inside portable lights are covered by WEEE. This page explains the symbol on the product, where to take one at end of life, and what we are obliged to do.

Last updated 13 August 2026 · Governing law: Denmark

The crossed-out wheeled bin

All 40 electrical articles in this catalogue carry the crossed-out wheeled bin symbol, as required by Directive 2012/19/EU on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment. The symbol means one thing: this must not go into household waste at end of life.

It is there because the parts inside are worth recovering and because some of them should not end up in landfill. An LED driver contains a circuit board. A lithium cell contains materials that are genuinely hazardous when crushed. Both are straightforward to recycle if they reach the right place.

Where to take one in Denmark

  • Your municipal recycling centre (genbrugsplads). Every Danish municipality operates one and accepts small electrical equipment free of charge from households. This is the simplest route for a lamp.
  • Retail take-back. Larger retailers of electrical goods are obliged to take back equivalent equipment when you buy a replacement, and many take small items with no purchase at all.
  • Battery collection points. Loose cells and battery-powered articles are collected separately, including in supermarkets and at recycling centres.

Sending one back to us

If a municipal route is not practical, write to support@mazodesign.shop with the article and where you are. We will tell you how to return it and what, if anything, the carriage will cost. We would rather have it back than have it in a bin.

Do not post a lithium-cell article without asking first. Cells are restricted goods in transport, and a damaged one must not be posted at all.

Lithium cells

6 articles contain a lithium-ion cell. At end of life they go to a battery collection point or a recycling centre, not into general waste and not into the ordinary paper or metal streams.

A damaged cell is a fire risk

A cell that has swollen, been crushed, or been submerged must not be charged, must not be posted, and must not be stored with anything flammable. Take it to a collection point and tell the staff it is damaged — they have a container for exactly this.

Preparing an article for recycling

  1. Disconnect it. For a hard-wired fitting that is work for an authorised electrician.
  2. Take out any replaceable bulb. Bulbs are collected separately — LED and fluorescent bulbs in particular have their own stream.
  3. Leave the rest assembled. Recycling centres would rather have a whole lamp than a bag of parts, and you do not need to separate the metal from the electronics.
  4. Do not cut the cord off. It is part of the article and is recovered with it.

Producer obligations

Deployment note

Under Danish implementation of WEEE, the producer or importer placing electrical equipment on the Danish market must register with the national producer register (Dansk Producentansvarssystem, DPA-System), report volumes placed on the market, and finance collection and treatment of the corresponding waste. Registration is held by the operating company and its registration number is added to this page once it is issued. Anyone importing these articles into another EU member state carries the equivalent obligation in that state.

We publish this rather than leave it implied, because a producer obligation that nobody names is a producer obligation nobody checks.

Packaging

Cartons are unbleached corrugated board and are recyclable as paper. Internal protection is moulded pulp or paper honeycomb rather than expanded polystyrene. Where a bag is needed to protect a finish it is recyclable polyethylene. There is no printed plastic film on the outer carton.

Repair before recycling

The best outcome for a lamp is that it keeps working. Every article that takes a replaceable bulb can be re-bulbed indefinitely, which is one of the reasons most of this catalogue ships without a light source. Articles with a non-replaceable integrated LED say so clearly on their product page along with the rated life, because that is a real trade and it should be made knowingly.

If something has broken and you would rather have it repaired than replaced, ask us. Within the two-year right to complain that conversation starts with repair anyway.
