A DARK SITE
THAT STILL READS.

Target

This site is built to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. That is the level referenced by the European accessibility framework and it is the level we hold ourselves to deliberately, not as an aspiration.

Measured contrast

Every colour pairing used for text was calculated against the page ground #0D0B09. AA requires 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text; AAA requires 7:1.

Body text uses a high-luminance neutral rather than a mid grey, which is where dark sites usually fail. The primary action — warm sand on the near-black ground — reaches 12.3:1, which clears the 7:1 AAA threshold by a wide margin.

Colour is never the only cue

Warm sand carries every number on this site, which makes it exactly the kind of thing that would exclude someone if it carried meaning on its own. It does not:

• Every photometric value has a written label beside it — Output, Colour temp, Colour rendering — not just a coloured figure.
• The colour-temperature scale across the top of every page prints each kelvin value and its name in words. The gradient is decoration.
• Articles that need an electrician are marked with the words “Electrician required”, not with a coloured dot.
• The colour rendering and colour temperature comparison photographs are each accompanied by text that states the same facts, so nothing depends on being able to see the difference in the image.
• Form errors are text, adjacent to the field, announced with a live region.

Keyboard

• Everything interactive is reachable and operable by keyboard alone.
• The expanding search opens with Enter or Space, moves focus straight into the input, closes with Escape, and returns focus to the button that opened it. The mobile menu behaves the same way.
• Focus is always visible: a 2px warm sand outline with a 3px offset, on every element.
• A skip link to the main content is the first thing in the tab order.
• Product cards use a single link covering the card, so a card is one tab stop rather than three.

Motion

• The colour-temperature scale can be paused. There is a real Pause button beside it, it also pauses on hover and on focus, and under prefers-reduced-motion it never moves at all.
• The switch-on video has a visible play and pause control. Under reduced motion it does not autoplay — the poster frame is shown instead, and you decide.
• Counting numbers settle onto their real figure. Under reduced motion they render at the final value immediately, and screen readers are given the final value in every case rather than a moving one.
• Nothing on this site flashes, and nothing moves faster than a slow drift.

Structure and semantics

• One h1 per page, and headings that descend in order.
• Specifications are marked up as description lists, comparisons as real tables with row and column headers.
• Every image has alternative text that describes what is in it, not just the product name. Decorative images are hidden from assistive technology.
• Every form field has a visible, associated label. Placeholders are never used as labels.
• Filter results announce their count through a live region as filters change.
• Language is declared as English; the site is served in one language.

Text and zoom

• Body text is set at a comfortable size with a generous line height. The typography on this site pairs a very heavy display face with a light body face, and the body face is never used below the weight at which it stays legible.
• Layout reflows to 400% zoom without a horizontal scrollbar.
• Wide tables scroll inside their own container rather than pushing the page sideways.
• Nothing breaks if you override our fonts or colours with your own stylesheet.

Known limits

Two things we would rather state than have you discover:

• The site is published only in English. Danish statutory terms appear in Danish where they are the legal name of a right — fortrydelsesret, reklamationsret, moms — because translating them would make them harder to look up, not easier.
• The technical diagrams on the electrical safety page carry text descriptions and accessible names, but a beam-angle geometry is genuinely easier to grasp visually. If any of them is unclear to you, tell us and we will write a fuller description.
